Holmsland Klit

A place where I love to be is Holmsland Klit, the southern peninsula between the North Sea and the Ringköbing Fjord.

We spend already some holidays there, especially since we found a small cottage agent.

When we arrived the weather was quite nice. A bit of wind, some clouds, but no rain. So off we went to the beach.

I didn't want to shock my husband so we went without Toivo and Inkeri.

"What about us? We want to go, too!"

"Yes, let's do some exploring."

We took the hiking and biking trail through the heather.

"It is nice here! So much room!"

We went on and had a close look at all the plants.

"Honeysuckle this is? It smells sweet!"

We climbed a small dune. Small blue flowers there were and masses of reindeer moss.

Toivo found himself almost vanishing in the colors around him. Great adventure! He is reading The Lord of the Ring trilogy with me right now and fancied he is a hobbit. With boots.
Inkeri was totally drawn to the little flowers and the moss. It was fun that the flowers had almost the same color as her dress.

At the crossing with the broad way to the beach we had a discussion about the direction we would choose. Both my little ones wanted to got to the beach but as it started to rain, I decided to go back.

They were content with that decision in the end because the exploration had made them tired.
The next days the weather got more and more windy, even stormy, and very rainy.

No good weather for dolls to be outside, but fascinating for us humans.

I can watch the waves for hours. But even in the heather there are lots of interesting things to be found. Lots of mushrooms for example.

The next day we went to Hvide Sande. The water splashed against the mole and rain sprayed into my hair.

At the cottage the rain dropped from the thatched roof. Toivo and Inkeri stood by the window and watched out in hope for a little sunshine.

"Rain, rain, rain all day long!"

"It is boring inside. Nothing to do!"

"And there is more rain to come, I fear."

"Mom, I want something else to do."

"Can't we go to Hvide Sande? For to see other houses? And people? And maybe do some shopping?"

The next morning the weather seemed promising but it was still stormy. Nevertheless Inkeri followed us to Hvide Sande.

We went to the harbour...

...and saw how high the water was standing.

We walked through the streets and even bought a small ceramic can for our coffee milk.

On the way back we went to the beach and had a look at how high the storm had the water driven up the sands.

"It reached the dunes! And how strong the wind is!"

"Mom, we can't go further that way today. And you better hold me tight."

These are Inkeri's favorite pics, by the way.

And then the week was over, we had to leave. A rainbow wished us good-bye and a good journey.
